Travis is a dedicated 5am'er
Q: What are some things you do outside the gym that people might not know?
A: I’m usually hanging out with my wife and two young daughters (2 and 5). The girls may be joining Iron Grip in 8 years, they love bicep curls! I try to see a movie in the theater at least once a month, I hike occasionally and I do own
a mountain bike, but the tires have been flat for two
years, so that may tell you something. Any day now I’m going to fix it, Fantasy Island is literally right behind my house. Whenever there’s random free time I split it between cooking, reading, podcasts (Dax, Rogan, HBR), home projects, TV shows (Narcos Mexico Season 2), random internet browsing, and the occasional video game (Zelda). To make a living, I work at Garmin where I lead an engineering product development team.
Q: Do you remember what your first workout was
and what you thought?
A: It was a Sunday morning and there were plate
pushes and farmer carries involved. Carrying
random things around fit the Crossfit stereotype
pretty well, so it was pretty much what I expected. I
remember it being a lot harder than I thought it would be. I had to scale almost immediately, and thus began my love hate relationship with scaling workouts.
Q: What’s your favorite workout?
A: Anything team related, especially if there are heavy lifts involved.
Q: What’s your least favorite workout?
A: Fran.
Q: What’s your favorite movie?
A: Recent: The Gentlemen. All time: Goodfellas
Q: What’s your favorite book?
A: Fiction: Harry Potter Series. Non-fiction: The Hard Things About Hard Things
Q: How did you find Iron Grip?
A: I could never stick to a routine for an extended amount of time at random globo gyms. I’d always known about Crossfit but it wasn’t until my brother-in-law tried it and told me about it that I decided to look into it more. I googled around and fortunately Iron Grip was close by and had a 5AM class. I’ve been coming every single weekday since!
