Athlete of the MonthApril

Brittany Brown

What’s your career?
My career has always been in nursing. I was a pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant nurse for over 10 years then became a nurse practitioner. I did battle an addiction to opiates and had to surrender my licenses for 3 years but am now in the process of reapplying with over 3 years clean. For now I work at home for Verizon.
What are some things you do outside the gym that people might not know?
Outside of the gym I am a mom. I have 3 daughters, my oldest is pregnant. I spend time with my boyfriend and our blended family, have a group of friends I run with and am very active in NA (narcotics anonymous).
Do you remember what your first workout was and what you thought?
My first workout had a lot of push press, ab mat sit-ups and rowing. All I remember is not wanting to laugh, sneeze or cough for a week.
What’s your favorite workout?
Any workout that has deadlifts is my favorite. I don’t have a least favorite because I love how it’s different every day and I get to challenge myself physically and mentally.
Favorite movie: The Sandlot
Favorite book: don’t have a favorite but the most recent book I’ve read is The Four Agreements.
Favorite cheat food: chocolate for sure
How did you find Iron Grip?
I found Iron Grip when I had been lifting with a trainer for some time but was not getting the physical changes I wanted. I knew I wanted something more challenging so I found it online.
If you had one famous person to do a workout with, who would it be and why?
If there was a famous athlete I could workout with it would be Josh Hamilton as he continues to have an athletic career while dealing with recovery from an addiction day in and day out.
