Iron Grip CrossFit – CrossFit
We here in Arizona are very familiar with wild fires. We have all seen the smoke and flames on the mountain tops that surround our city. Most of us know someone whose life has been directly affected by a fire.
On June 30, 2013, the Granite Mountain Hotshot Firefighter crew of Prescott, Arizona lost 19 of its 20 members. These men lost their lives battling the Yarnell Hill Fire. Each of these men was an important and well known member of their small community in Prescott. They were also all CrossFitters.
Firefighters are a unique brand of hero. They fight against a foe that must be either totally defeated or not at all. They battle an adversary that takes no prisoners, gives no quarter and has no consideration whatever for the destruction left in its wake. They fight against something that may be contained, but never fully controlled unless it is completely vanquished. They fight against the very forces of nature herself.
Today, we honor the memory of those 19 fallen Hotshots who gave their lives in the service and protection of people they would never know. Today we honor their families, loved ones and friends. Today we honor all those who would dare to run into the flames and say to Mother Nature, “this far, and no further.”
To all of our firefighters and their families, we thank you. With all our hearts. Thank you.
