Stabilizing the spine by contracting the abdominal muscles isometrically is a key component of nearly every movement we do in CrossFit. This helps protect the spine during weightlifting movements, makes gymnastics movement more efficient and strengthens the abdominal muscles along the way. Sometimes, however, it’s useful (and fun?) to give the muscles of the trunk some attention of their own.
